Luiza de Moraes directs The Curious Tales of Italo Ferreira
‘The Curious Tales of Italo Ferreira’ is Luiza de Moraes‘s most recent documentary project.
The fifty-minute film explores the story of World Champion Surfer Italo Ferreira, from his humble beginnings in Brazil to his 2021 Olympic Gold (Ferreira actually asked for production to wait to finish until after the Tokyo Olympics so that it could capture his determined win).
The film captures his world through the colourful memories of friends and families, building his journey through a collection of stories, from the 8 year old Italo learning to surf on a styrofoam lid from a box of fish, to sleeping in boardbags and getting slapped by sandals to becoming the World Leading Surfer that he is today.
More than a film about surfing, this is a film about life, living and the stories that make you. Luiza discovered on meeting Italo that he hates talking about himself, so his stories are told by those he’s closest to, such as his childhood friend and surfing filmer Buxexa, who narrates the story.
