FREDGY NOËL | Vimeo Staff Pick

Fredgy Noël’s latest short film New York Day Women has been named a Vimeo Staff Pick  a well-earned recognition for a film that has already made its mark on the festival circuit.

Premiering at Tribeca Film Festival, the film is adapted from Haitian-American writer Edwidge Danticat’s 1991 short story of the same name. It follows Suzette, a young woman who spots her mother unexpectedly on the streets of Manhattan and decides to trail her through the city. What unfolds is an intimate portrait of distance and discovery, Suzette seeing her mother, perhaps for the first time, as a full and separate person, and in doing so, seeing herself differently too.

Noël brings a filmmaker’s deep romanticism for New York to the adaptation, alongside a quietly powerful celebration of the cultural inheritance passed between generations of women.
